In addition, I like to greet all our American friends a Happy Independence Day.

Okay back to business.

Since we got the apartment, I’ve been like an uber homemaker. I always tend to have this weekly dinner parties at home and the chance to create more scrumptious meals in a quick and easy way. At the same time I’ve created some nice decorative pieces to place on empty walls in lieu of buying expensive paintings.

decors
By cutting out snippets of an old comics and pasting it on black cardboard I’ve manage to create cheap but chic decors to place on the walls.

Okay, so you are having this dinner party for let’s say 4 people but you don’t really have the luxury of time. The trick here is to come up with something that is simple to make but titilating to your tastebuds. Here are some stuff I made during my dinner party last Saturday.

1. Bacon, Prawn and Vegetable Orgy

Orgy

Ingredients:

A pack of frozen prawns
A pack of bacon
A pack of frozen wok vegetables (carrots, baby corn, peas, beans)
1 bulb of onion chopped
1 garlic clover chopped
A cup of water
Cornstarch diluted in a cup of cold water
Salt
Pepper
Rosemary

Defrost the frozen stuff first.

Fry the bacon first on a deep pan without oil since the bacon secretes its own oil when you fry it. When done take out all the bacon strips and set aside. Don’t throw the bacon oil and use it instead to fry the garlic, onion, veggies and the prawns.

Once the prawns look pinkish or reddish pour in the cup of water following the cup of diluted cornstarch and simmer in medium heat. Seasoned it with salt, pepper and rosemary. Stir it constantly for about 15 minutes or until it thickens and the veggies are a bit tender. Serve it while it is piping hot.

Note: For the health conscious you can omit the bacon and use virgin olive oil for frying.

2. Oh la la Aubergine Pie ver. 2

Aubergine

Ingredients:

2 large aubergines
6 eggs
Salt
Pepper
Mozarella cheese shredded

Preheat the oven around 250 degrees Celsius.

Wash the aubergines, pat it with a kitchen paper to dry and place inside the oven for about 20 minutes or until cook. While waiting for it to cook beat the eggs with a dash of salt and pepper.

Once the aubergines are cook, take them out without turning off the oven and set it aside to cool off. Once they are quite cool, peel the skin off the aubergines and use a fork to rake the surface of the aubergine from its crown to the bottom. Do it constantly until it looks a bit shredded and forms a fan like shape when you spread it out. Dip it on the egg mixture and fry it as you normally fry an omelettes. Fry them until they look golden brown.

When they are done place the aubergines on a shallow but wide baking pan topped with mozarella cheese. Then place it in the oven for about 5-10 minutes or until the mozarella cheese melts and looks golden brown.

These recipes only took me less than 30 minutes!

That’s all for now!

P.S.

I’ve added a new section in my blog called Confessions. Where I will store the “I Was A Teenage Slut” series and other naughty bits. Also please don’t forget to click on my sponsors on my sidebar since the proceeds goes to my film fund!

Hey Lil’ Bro’ thanks for wishing us americans a happy independence day!
Are aubergines the same as Eggplant? large shiny purple vegetable. Looks good!
Smart move to decorate with comics and such on the large wall. Friends ahve something to read while standing around waiting for the delicous dinner you’ve prepared.

Haha I’m glad I study French. That’s the only reason I knew what an aubergine was haha, the vegetable and prawn orgy looks fantastic! Hehe. Great idea with the comics and black cardboard too. You should have a look at rightbrainterrain.com – I reckon you’d love their posters. Although they won’t work out as cheap as your nifty little innovation!

  3. sasha sier:

Hi Chas, that looks delicious, your eggplant recipe. I haven’t ever eaten prawns before, but that looks nice too.

Eggplant, the only vege which I am allergic too. It makes my fingertips peel all over. I like it a lot growing up and didn’t connect the two until way later when an allergist started testing me for allergies.

You are verra talented young man! :)

  12. ruth sier:

Your pics of your food dishes make my mouth water! (except for fish, as renny knows, I don’t like anything fishy! I’m going to his place for RIBS though!!) What could I substitue for prawns, I wonder? Short braising ribs? chicken?

  13. Good thing you didn’t wrap those wall decors with plastic. :) Miss yah, Mare!

  14. Skye sier:

The Bacon, Prawn and Vegetable Orgy looks weird… it reminds me of some kind of Indian curry that smelled bad, looked bad but tasted like heaven. Unfortunately, it gave me a week’s worth of LBM, so anything similar-looking leaves me traumatized lol

Maybe work on presentation a little bit?

The pie looks good, but I have no idea what aubergines are… *wikis the word*

    :)

  15. Windy sier:

I like the way you say ‘whore your blog to the max’! Hehe…
Interesting way to cook the aubergines, should try to make it one day. ;)

I really like the idea of decorating your apartment like that. I love the concept of cartoons. I know this very famous cartoon artist who lives locally, I’ve featured some of his work on my blog.
The menus sound really good as well. Aubergines: very classy.
    Keep it up, good work!

  35. K sier:

Great Job on comic-cutting-frames. I too had this “talent” of showing my artisty side. I would usually cut old photos friends and do a collages on a big frame, it looks neat. Apparently, our life changes, some friends come and go so everytime I look at the the frame it gives me flashback, so I took it off the wall and give a cursed on it. Hahaha.

  36. JMom sier:

hi chas! Sorry haven’t been by in a while. I enjoyed reading back through all the posts I missed. I’ll have to add your confessions to my bookmark ;-)

Love these recipes you posted and that very meaty pie looks absolutely yummy! I’m all for quickie meals too.

    Hi,
you have one of the best blogs and most interesting I do read. World Wide.
I have no other excuse than 24/7 – — to not comment as I should.
But you know – it’s people out there than need more strokes than we for the time present….
I have seen what you have done for my very good friend RenneBA, I’ve read almost all of your posts

    — they are all a kind of “utfordrende” – and I simply love that.

May you have your personlized Summer Vacation.

PS This night my wireless (ICE) connection seems to be working

    hugs
    Anna and Tor

  38. tofubaby sier:

    parang masarap ito ha.

thanks, i bought shrimps last thursday, which i like to cook for sascha´s bday, but i don´t cook it, while only harald eat shrimp.
kaya i have a problem what shall i do for it.

and thanks i have now a recipe, i try this one….thanks…….

and about your aubergine, ganoon ba to do, put in the oven for 20 mins, then peel off the skin…..ok…………i have now an idea.

what i do is, boil water then cook it for 5-10 mins or until the skin is easily to peel-off……….b ut the problem, madurog siya or its absorb with more water the eggplant.

but this is a good idea, thanks ha?

i try this too……….ay oo nga, i do a little bit like this recipe, but i used grind meat…..
but i think this is good, poor fats and calories…..

thanks for sharing again…………i try this.
